Pentax is still missing a few lenses to make their lens range appeal more comprehensively to main market consumer and tele users alike. The following proposal attempts to fill these gaps with a limited number of new designs and make the Pentax lens range on the whole more complete. A left out some of the prime/limited lenses, not my area of expertise.

DA-L 18-55mm F3.5-5.6
Budget, budget, budget, but still optical a fine lens especially for it's class.

17-105mm F3.5-5.6
Bit more range for those who need it, optical quality close to the 18-55mm. WR version a kit lens for WR bodies, yet still useful as a light WR outdoor lens for more advanced users. Little wider, smaller, lighter and cheaper than 18-270mm.

18-270mm F3.5-5.6
Superzoom must have for every brand. In DA-L form a cheap all in one package to sell more entry level bodies. In WR form extremely handy in bad weather because of sealed lens and little need to change lenses. Very handy as outdoor or one solution travel lens.

DA-L 50-200mm F4-5.6
Budget, budget, budget, but optically not bad. Makes tele range available for those on a budget.

55-300mm F4-5.8
Quite a nice and versatile tele zoom. In DA-L form a unique selling point for Pentax entry bodies (now copied by Nikon) and in WR form very useful, good quality WR telezoom.

DA 80-400mm F4-5.6 WR
For those that want the 400mm reach with decent image quality, but without the size, weight and price that come with larger aperture lenses.

DA 12-35mm F3.5-4.5 WR
The ultimate walk around landscape lens, covering almost all the most used landscape focal length and in a waterproof package.

DA 16-70mm F4 WR
Adding 1mm wide angle and WR to the 17-70mm giving it two additional buying incentives over the Sigma and making it generally a more interesting and appealing package.

DA* 10-16mm F2.8 WR
Weather resistant wide angle supplement to the rest of the F2.8 range.

DA* 24-55mm F2 WR
The people zoom. Covering everything from small group close ups to portraits even in low light conditions.

DA* 135-400mm F4.5 WR
This lens is not about screaming specs, but about offering excellent image quality and rendering within the focal and aperture range available. As such, especially for a zoom, this lens would have a very generous and special character just like the 60-250mm does at shorter focal range.

DA* 500mm F5.6 WR
Offering very long range, with excellent image quality at what still could be considered an affordable price for the target market.
